This Gold Plug magnetic sump plug has been manufactured to match the specification of the 88G257X, making it a direct replacement for classic applications using a ½” x 19 TPI oil drain plug.
Designed for use on BMC A and B Series engines, including the Classic Mini and other classic British vehicles, this plug provides a simple upgrade over a standard drain plug by incorporating a high-strength magnet to capture fine metal particles in the engine oil.

Why Fit a Magnetic Sump Plug?
During normal engine operation, microscopic metal particles are produced as components wear over time. These particles circulate in the oil and are not always fully captured by the oil filter.
The magnetic tip on this plug attracts and holds ferrous metal debris, helping to reduce the amount of material circulating through the engine between oil changes.
At each service, the plug can be removed and cleaned, giving a simple visual indication of what has been collected.
